  • Gould's A Monograph of the Trochilidae was published in 25 parts between 1849 and 1861. The Supplement was begun by Gould in 1880, with the fifth and final part completed by Richard Bowdler Sharpe in 1887, six years after Gould had died. It contains descriptions of sixty previously unrecorded species. See illustration overleaf.
