Footnotes

  • The atlas volumes of Louis Agassiz's important works on fossil fishes. Agassiz travelled to see in person the fossil fish collections held by museums throughout Europe in order to clarify his understanding of the classifications. He was always accompanied by accomplished draughtsmen who produced the illustrations which form the basis of the plates reproduced in these atlas volumes, all lithographed by H. Nicolet.
