Skues wrote of this book "... a really brilliant piece of work... a sheer delight to read, from the preface on, not only for its caustic irony, but for the invaluable common sense which it displays". This copy has several early annotations, including in the margin of page 58 a remark on landing a fish "hasle him not to neare ye top lest by ?flashing he brake ye line".
