Autograph letter signed ("Robert Browning"), to his friend Charlotte Moscheles, informing him that his sister Sarianna has suffered a severe inflammatory attack which, although she is improving, means that he dare not leave her side, and subscribing himself "Yours affectionately ever"; tipped into a copy of Dramatic Idyls (1879), 2 pages, on light blue paper, engraved heading, guard (obscuring a few words), some foxing, small 8vo, Warwick Crescent, 11 June 1886

  • The recipient was married to the painter Felix Moscheles, who had executed his well-known portrait of the poet two years earlier. Browning was frequently to be found at the soirées held by the Moscheles at their old brown brick bungalow in Cadogan Gardens prior to its gentrification.
