LIVERPOOL - BINDING
A Record of the the Rejoicings and Proceedings of the First Visit of their Majesties King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra to the City of Liverpool on the Occasion of the Laying of the Foundation Stone of the Liverpool Cathedral, 19th July, 1904, first edition, title printed in red and black, 32 collotypes by Mowll and Morrison (depicting the Royal visitors and the ceremony, the celebratory pageants, and portraits of the good and great), one plate with mounted luncheon menu and silver-gilt embossed paper commerorative medallions, bookplate on verso of front free endpaper, full crushed morocco gilt by Fazakerley of Liverpool (signed on turn-in), the covers ornately decorated with wide outer border filled with repeated monograms of John Sutherland Harmood-Banner and Tudor roses, enclosing a central panel with decorative flowers (in red and white morocco onlays) and trailing leaves, the upper cover with title and arms of the City, wide inner gilt dentelles (similar design to upper cover), watered silk endpapers, g.e., oblong folio, Liverpool, P.P.   • A fine example of a gilt-tooled binding by Fazakerley of Liverpool, on a volume issued to celebrate the Royal visit of King Edward VII to lay the foundation stone of the City's cathedral. The binding was made for Sir John Sutherland-Harmood (1847-1927), Unionist MP for Everton between 1905 and 1925, and Mayor of Liverpool, 1912.
