ORCHIDS AND ROSES - WATERCOLOUR ALBUMS
Two fine albums of highly finished watercolours depicting flowers (mostly orchids and rose, but some lilies, tulips, carnations etc., some arranged with fruits or vases), by W. Hales (apparently a Staffordshire porcelain artist), 115 full-page watercolours, on thick wove paper, all neatly titled in ink on verso, cabinet portrait (by "David Murray, Goldthorn Hill, Wolverhampton") inscribed on verso "Grandfather Hales", half morocco, gilt lettered "Studies of Orchids & Roses" on upper covers, endpapers watermarked "Oceania Fine", gilt morocco label "Painted by W. Hales" on front paste-downs, oblong folio (253 x 352mm.), [late nineteenth or early twentieth-century] (2)

  • Two albums containing 115 finely realised watercolours depicting orchids, roses and other flowers, mostly arranged in groups, some with fruit and vases. Although is not listed in Vega Wilkinson's Dictionary of Ceramic Artists, but it believed that he was a Staffordshire porcelain artist.
