Collection comprising "A Log of the Proceedings of HM Sloop Grasshopper Charles Deare Esqre Commander Commencing March 10th 1830 Terminating April 2nd 1830 Kept by Richard Gray Mate", with a continuation being the log of HM Ship Barham, bearing the flag of Admiral the Hon C.E. Fleeming, Captain Sir John Louis Bt, kept by Gray after promotion to lieutenant, from 3 April until 12 August 1830, over 40 pages, original marbled wrappers, usual minor wear, folio; together with a late eighteenth- or early nineteenth-century midshipman's exercise book, opening with a drawing of the mariner's compass and including sailing instructions, rules of journal keeping and the like, illustrated with charts and other material, upwards of 100 pages, dust-stained and with usual wear, modern boards, folio (2)
