First [-Sixth] of a Series of Plans of the Great Northern Coal Field, Most Respectfully Dedicated to the Coal Trade, lithographed maps, all hand-coloured in outline, dissected into 20 sections laid on linen, folding into cloth portfolios, lettered in gilt "Royalty Plan. First [etc.] Series" on upper covers, publisher's printed advertisement leaf pasted inside cover of third plan, image size of each approximately 810 x 1060mm., Castle Eden, for the Author [-Newcastle, Lambert & Co.], 1843-1861

    John T.W. Bell was a civil engineer and surveyor, of Newcastle. Each map indicates the ownership of land and mineral royalties associated with it, showing the collieries, railway lines, towns, unusual geological features, and other important aspects.
