Lot Details
MILLER (HENRY)
3 autograph letters, one to Vida Reed Stone asking for Frank Townshend's address, one page, 29th March, 1950; 2 to Frank Townshend concerning their mutual friend Vida Reed Stone, Miller's meeting of Frieda Lawrence ("she spent a winter here with us. A wonderful earthy creature!"), India ("I have tremendous faith in the Indian people, great, great hopes for India as a country, for the role she will soon play in world affairs, together with China and Russia...America is, in many ways, moribund. Or at least sterile...like her manufactured prod"), his writing ("I am now writing a book about books...I finished two big volumes of the trilogy called 'The Rosy Crucifixion'...Then comes 'Draco and the Ecliptic'-perhaps my final book, at least the end, the capstone of my "autobiographical"-shall I say 'romances'? I should then like to forget about writing...and give myself up to travel...to see the whole Orient."), the second concerning the similarities between their writing ("Vida Reed Stone lent me your "Amen" to read...Amazing how many similarities of thought (and names!) we have in our two books"), 2 pages with envelopes, the latter on Big Sur headed paper, 27th April, 1950 and 5th October, 1952; The Books in My Life, AUTHOR'S PRESENTATION COPY to Vida Reed Stone ("9/16/52"), New Directions, 1952; The Tropic of Cancer; The Tropic of Capricorn, 1948; Max and the White Phagocytes, 1938, publisher's wrappers bound in, Obelisk Press--PERLÈS (ALFRED) My Friend Henry Miller, SIGNED BY PERLÈS AND MILLER on card pasted to front free endpaper, dust-jacket, a few tears with loss to spine and verso, Neville Spearman, 1955, some spotting and browning, publisher's cloth, rubbed, 8vo; and others (small quantity)
