Miscellaneous papers of the Blackburne family, principally of Orford Hall, near Warrington, comprising a file of "Curious letters political & general subjects 1783-1851" including letters by Sidmouth, Peel, Eldon, etc., many to John Blackburne MP or Dr Ireland Blackburne; a file of correspondence "From 1746 to 1815"; a series of antiquarian letters by the Rev Edward Owen, Headmaster of Warrington (see OIDNB), discussing Livy, Roman oarsmen, etc., addressed to John Blackburne of Chester and sometime of Queen's College; a folder of family squibs; a file of 19th century occasional verse; a folder of "Narratives Sensational Emotional and Snuff Box Story"; a lock "attested to be the Hair of Louis the XVIth Feb. 1793/ G. Potter" with the not that it "was cut off by the Execution previous to his being guillotined, & bought pre Louis (that is part of it) by Mr C. Potter – The king has a lock of it"; local appointments (DL etc); a file of correspondence and ephemera relating to the Newton election of 1807; a file of Bamford Papers, including grants and deeds; early nineteenth-century silhouettes, and much else
