  • Inscribed towards the end of 1900 during Churchill's speaking tour to America, where he hoped to repeat the success he had had in England with his lectures on the War in South Africa and his experiences of it. It was in Washington that he met Major-General Sir Gerald Charles Kitson, a British Army officer who later became Commandant of the Royal Military College Sandhurst.
