Footnotes

  • FIRST EDITION OF THE FIRST VOLUME OF BRIGHT'S GREATEST WORK. The complex of disorders of the kidney, now known as "Bright's disease", are here described for the first time, whilst the hand-coloured plates are regarded as amongst the most beautiful medical illustrations ever published.

The books from the Wakefield Medical Library, formed circa 1830, were bought by John Walker when the library was sold in the early twentieth century. During the 1960's the majority of these books were then donated by his son, Professor Robert Milnes Walker, to the University of York, and now comprise the Milnes Walker Collection in the J.B. Morrell Library. See illustration at page 16.
