Official large-format Golden Jubilee studio photograph of 1887, signed ("Victoria RI/ 1887") in the top left-hand corner, by Lafayette of Dublin, showing the Queen standing full-length in Court dress (her bodice and train of black silk damask, with tulle overskirt, edged with ruffles and embroidered with jet), before a table bearing a photograph of Prince Albert, against a painted background, on black and studio card stamped in gilt, traces of having being framed on reverse, size of image 295 x 245mm., 1887

  • A FINE LARGE-FORMAT PHOTOGRAPH OF THE QUEEN ON HER GOLDEN JUBILEE: she has clearly had difficulty writing on the shiny surface of the photographic paper, and the last digit seems to have originally been written as an '8', no doubt as an inadvertent repetition of the previous two digits, which she has then corrected: the commoner variant of this photograph, taken by the well-known Dublin photographer Lafayette (James Stack Lauder), shows the Queen seated.
