An important collection of 152 images by Lieutenant William Pyt Bennett recording his service with the RGA 7th Mountain Battery on the Younghusband Mission, gelatin silver prints, many numbered in the negative, presented with corner mounts in a modern album, with the original captions on the versos of the images and their transcriptions on the mounts, images mostly four per page and typically 75 x 100mm., oblong folio, Tibet, 1903-04

    A small group of photocopies accompany the lot. These include a letter from Bennett while at Phari on the return to India enclosing photographs, addressed to John Bain, who had been one of Bennett's masters at Marlborough. A further letter of July 1916 from Bain to Bennett wishing him well in France is accompanied by a reply from Bennett's father with the news "...that today we received one of the dreaded W.O. Telegram telling us that dear Will was killed in action on the 15th. His loss is very great to us all, but we must console ourselves that he died doing his duty, & feeling assured that he was well prepared."
