Footnotes

  • "The most important English colour plate book on Norway" (Tooley). Edy went to Norway in the summer of 1800 with William Fearnside, travelling from Oslo to Trondheim, Morebjene and Bergen, recording the scenery in words and picture as they went. The work was first published in 8 parts between 1811 and 1820, and in a two volume edition, but the printing history as discussed by Abbey is very complex. The present copy of the single-volume edition has a title watermarked 1824 and all plates without imprints (as the Abbey copy).
