Footnotes

  • We have found no record of this print ever having come to auction. A copy resides in the British Museum.

"The Bomber was one of few Nevinson prints to be executed in a quasi-Futurist style; a style the artist believed was suited to the subject matter, with Futurist lines of force conveying the force of explosion that will inevitably follow once the grenade hurled by the British soldier has hit its target and detonated. Simultaneously, the staccato Futurist Idiom supplies an unsparingly indication of what havoc the grenade explosion, creating hundreds of whirling jagged fragments of steel, will inflict on the body of one of its victims."
