Footnotes

  • 明 青玉雕仿古獸紋杯

Purchased from Jade House with an invoice dated 17 September 1955

There are several published examples of this type of Ming Dynasty archaistic cup: see for example, R-Y.Lefebvre-d'Argencé, Chinese Jades in the Avery Brundage Collection, San Francisco, 1972, pl.XXXVI. However, it is rarer to find a cup carved such as the present lot with crouching human figures forming the feet.
