The associated case with rebuilt hood over a slim trunk with (now filled) lenticle surrounded by an intricate pattern of oyster veneered pieces set in geometric patterns, over a rebuilt base, the sides further veneered with oyster pieces in rectangular panels, the 10 inch square brass dial with large winged cherubs head spandrels enclosing the Roman and Arabic chapter ring with inner quarter hour track and stylised fleur de lys half hour markers, the finely matted centre with ringed winding squares, subsidiary seconds and chamfered date aperture, the weight driven movement with five knopped and finned pillars, anchor escapement and inside countwheel strike on a bell 1.96m (6ft 5ins) high.

  • Thomas Fordham was a member of the Clockmakers' Company in London from 1687 to 1705 and afterwards in Dunmow, Essex in the early 18th century. He numbered some of his clocks including 299.
