1948 Vincent 998cc Rapide
Frame no. R2887
Engine no. F10AB/1/2170
Ever since the Series A's arrival in 1937, the Vincent v-twin has been synonymous with design innovation, engineering excellence and superlative high performance.
The restored Rapide offered here represents the culmination of its owner's lifelong passion for Vincents. A VOC member for many years, the owner describes the machine as a real workhorse built with fast touring in mind its maker's intended purpose while retaining the good looks of the original.
Built by marque specialists Maughan's in 2002, the engine is to Black Shadow specification incorporating Carrillo con-rods, refurbished Amal carburettors, electric starter and John McDougall alternator. The latter has been fitted to cope with the indicators and 10" headlamp, deemed necessary for modern road conditions. Full touring mudguards and panniers based on factory items are included in the sale together with small and large luggage racks. The Rapide retains the supplying dealer's original plaque and comes with a substantial file of history containing all bills relating to the vendor's 15-plus years of ownership. Used extensively for Continental touring and a regular sight on the roads of France, this ultimate touring Vincent is described as in generally excellent condition and comes with sundry restoration invoices, various photographs and UK V5 registration document for the mark '647 XUN'.
