EXHIBITED Paris, Galerie Françoise Tournié, Marcel Jean, February 27 - April 15, 1973.
Marcel Jean deserves credit as an original member of André Breton's first surrealist group. After the group dispersed due to the world events of the late 1930s and early 40s, Jean offered support along with another original member, Victor Brauner, in Breton's efforts to reorganize the artists. The Maeght Gallery under Aimeé Maeght's kind patronage would organize an exhibition in the spring of 1946 in Paris as means of showing that Surrealism was alive and well. This abstraction is very typical of the artist's works from this time and was painted in 1948.
