A sancai glazed pottery figure of an equestrienne
Tang dynasty
The young beauty dressed in a peaked bonnet and fitted jacket as she sits astride her mount with its head turned slightly to the left as it stands at rest upon a low rectangular plinth; the upper surfaces of the sculpture colored with amber and green splashes upon a colorless glaze that covers most of the horse's body, the glaze layer marked in many areas with a dense web of craze lines.
