A cast bronze tripod vessel, ding
Shang dynasty
The vessel raised on plain tubular legs supporting a u-shaped body well case with a main body decoration of taotie masks with protruding 'eyes' heightened with spirals and horizontal horned volutes cast in relief against a leiwen ground and separated by six t-hooked vertical flanges all under a strong rim supporting paired loop handles, the interior cast with a three character dedication reading "[] fu [] " ( ---offering to father x).
