A multicolor overlaid white glass bottle vase

Standing on a spreading circular foot, the pear-shaped body supporting a long, slightly tapered neck, carved through individually applied overlays of pale transparent green, red, and brown to depict a group of sinuous chilong chasing clouds, the milky white ground and each of the overlays intricately suffused with various shades and colors including gray, pink, beige, and blue; together with a copy of the Plesch Collection catalogue, 1979.

A very similarly decorated white glass vase of slightly larger size, dated 18th century, from the Shorenstein Collection, is illustrated on the cover and p.104 of A Chorus of Colors, Chinese Glass from Three American Collections, Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, 1995. The vase was later sold by Christie's, Hong Kong, 1 December 2010, sale 2831, lot 2940.
