A large archaistic rhinoceros horn libation cup
17th/18th century
The pouring vessel with prominent handle centered by a loose-haired chilong grasping the rim of the cup in his open mouth and entwined by two smaller beasts, the body of the cup carved with a band of taotie-mask decoration on a leiwen ground with two circling chilong carved in relief opposite the handle, with a key-fret border around the inner and outer rim, the cup raised on a waisted stem above the oval foot carved with a key-fret border, the grooved foot ring surrounding the concave base.
