A massive cut and uncut silk velvet carpet
19th century
Woven in three sections joined vertically to form a massive central panel of lotus flowers and intertwined leaf and squared scrolls woven in a combination of pale blue, orange and gilt-wrapped threads on a scarlet red ground that continues in the three border bands of dissolved dragons, lotus and leaf scrolls and rampant dragons; yellow cotton lining; now adapted for wall hanging with later velvet loops along the top border.
