A large embroidered wool celebratory hanging
Late Qing/Republic period
The red wool ground barely visible where it can be seen in the portions of the border surrounding a depiction of the birthday banquet of the Tang general Guo Ziyi, seated at the center with his wife, while in the foreground, officials bring a celebratory message from the emperor to his residence, identified by the inscription on a banner reading Fenyang wang fu, the figures worked in couched gilt threads with other details added other bright colors against the red couching threads that comprise the background.
