First coinage (1603-04), mintmark thistle, King crowned and in armor with sword over his right shoulder, on horseback right, ground line below, crowned rose on housing, IACOBVS.D.G.ANG.SCO.FRAN.ET.HIB. REX, reverse: square garnished shield, EXVRGAT.DEVS.DISSIPENTVR.INIMICI. Close examination reveals numerous crisscrossing scratches on the obverse and lower left reverse, numerous planchet indentations are also seen on the obverse. Pleasing steel-gray color with darker peripheral accents. Well-defined. Good Very Fine
