A William Marshall Pee-wee's Playhouse King of Cartoons crown
A Pee-wee's Playhouse King of Cartoons crown
Constructed of metal, plastic, paint, and gold cord and worn by actor William Marshall on Pee-wee's Playhouse. Together with a screenshot of Marshall wearing this crown, and two Polaroids of Marshall wearing a different version of the crown that was used on the last season of the show.

Marshall joined Pee-wee's Playhouse in 1987, replacing Gilbert Lewis as the King of Cartoons. The King introduced clips of 1930s-'40s cartoons, and was best known for his catchphrase, "Let...the cartoooon...begin!" Pee-wee has lately enjoyed renewed popularity, with Paul Reubens reviving the stage version of the show on Broadway in 2010-2011 and several of the TV show's props being included in the 2012 Museum of Modern Art exhibition, "Century of the Child."
