A Jimmy Stewart-owned bed from his childhood home
Mahogany-stained twin bed with extra-long rails, modified to accommodate his height, one of a pair of twin beds that resided in his childhood bedroom. Together with a framed copy of the September 24, 1965 edition of Life magazine, signed by Stewart, featuring a cover story on him with a photograph of him in the bed.
When Stewart moved away from his hometown of Indiana, PA, he left a pair of twin beds at his father's hardware store. His father then gave the beds to the wife of one of his employees, who gave them to the couple who bought their house, who then gave them to the present owner who donated its twin to the Jimmy Stewart Museum. This lot includes a provenance letter from one of the previous owners, a letter from the Director of the Jimmy Stewart Museum confirming the donation of the other bed, as well as a news clipping from the Indiana Gazette about the donation.
87 x 42 x 39 in.
