A Charlie Chaplin cane and bowler hat
A bamboo cane with an unfinished tip and "CCLT 36" inscribed on it in black ink. Chaplin's initials and "LT" for the Little Tramp, his signature character, retired after the release of Modern Times in 1936. With a black felt bowler hat with a 1 1/4 in. black grosgrain band and a 1/2 in. grosgrain trim around the brim. Bearing the remnants of a paper label on the interior (no manufacturer visible), and traces of glue from an interior band.
Accompanied by a certificate from Herbert Moore of the Mammoth Cave Wax Museum in Cave City, Kentucky, stating that the cane and hat were given to him in 1966 by the famed wax sculptor Katherine Stubergh Keller, who met Chaplin in 1936 when she was commission to create a bust of the actor. Also included in the lot is a copy of a period news clipping with a photograph of Stubergh and Chaplin together with her sculpture.
