Rhodochrosite
Rhodochrosite
N'Chwaning II Mine, Kalahari Manganese Fields, North Cape Province, Africa
A roseate cluster of brilliantly lustrous, cherry-red crystals with a slight dusting of contrasting black manganite crystals (reflecting its origin in a manganese mine). Rhodochrosites of this style were mined from approximately 1979-1982 and no further examples have emerged since of any quality. A well-balanced miniature of perfect size and aesthetics—the specimen is complete all around and viewable from 360 degrees, whereas many examples are simply thin plates, stood upright to look vertical. Measuring 2.4 x 2.1 x 1.5 cm
