Huge Emerald Crystal on Calcite Matrix
Coscuez Mine, Boyaca Department, Colombia
This highly aesthetic, classic specimen is notable for its large doubly-terminated emerald crystal, which measures 2 ½ inches in length and a robust ¾ inches across. The faces are lustrous and the color is a vivid green, contrasting dramatically with the snowy white calcite and conjoined colorless crystals. A small sprinkling of transparent emerald crystals rests at the base, with a small area of black schist visible as well. This classic emerald specimen is worthy of consideration by the most serious collector and is of unusually large size for a natural emerald crystal. It was collected in 2011 and comes directly from the source who brought it up from Colombia.
