Ruby, Diamond and Gold Illuminated Box with Star Ruby Finial

Of circular outline, fluted and carved from massive ruby from Mysore, India. A transparent rock crystal slab forms the bottom of the box. The finial centers on a star ruby cabochon from India, weighing approximately 15.24 carats, which has a strong well-defined central asterism. Mounted with a considerable amount of 18K yellow gold, weighing approximately 187 grams (6ozt), the box is decorated with borders formed of 212 diamonds, having a total weight of approximately 2.23 carats. The base is carved of Russian black obsidian with an inset light which illuminates the box through the rock crystal bottom so that it glows from within, with transformer.
