Gemstone Carving of a Russian Nobleman

Sumptuous materials have been used in this fine carving of a Russian nobleman. His cloak is carved of a brilliant vermillion South African jasper, the edges of which are "trimmed" in a darker red jasper, as are his collar and hat. The crown of the hat and boots are carved of Russian nephrite, while the beard is carved of milky white quartz. his eyes are set with small faceted blue sapphires. The coat is trimmed with 18K yellow gold passamanterie, forming an eloquent statement as to the gentleman's wealth. Height 4 3/4 in
