Lapis Lazuli Carving of an Egret

Gem-grade lapis lazuli was utilized in this carving probably executed in the 1980s. The texturing of the bird's feathers is finely carved and the eyes are formed of a pair of bezel-set brilliants. The beak is carved of bright orange coral. The gold vermeil legs rest upon a "marshy landscape" evoked by the use of a mound of dog's tooth calcite on matrix. Height 7 1/2 in
