Maw-sit-sit Carving of an Iguana
By Ronald Stevens
Presently called "kosmochlore-jade", previously used names for maw-sit-sit in the West were jade-albite or chloromelanite. A metamorphic rock with a complex composition from Myanmar (Burma), the name maw-sit-sit is given by the local people. Fine-quality Burmese maw-sit-sit has been used to evoke the reptilian quality of this well-executed and detailed carving of a iguana. Length 4 1/2in.
