Bi-color yellow and purple stone—known as ametrine—is a naturally occurring variety of quartz that is a mixture of amethyst and citrine with zones of purple and yellow. Almost all commercially available ametrine is mined in Bolivia. It is only occasionally seen in the jewelry world as faceted or cabbed gemstones. The present circular cabochon ametrine has a high dome and displays a high degree of transparency and distinct hexagonal color zoning of golden yellow and violet.
