Oblong folio (448 x 564 mm). 86 pp. 25 full-page lithographs after Max Henze, 24 of which are glossy chromolithographs, text illustrated with wood engravings, printed within red borders. Original cloth, elaborately stamped in gold, plain cloth box. Light foxing affecting preliminary and final leaves, not affecting plates, front free endpaper removed, some loss of gilt mainly to upper cover, wear to box.
Strikingly bright chromolithograph battle scenes, frequently depicting dozens of charging soldiers, printed on glossy, textured paper for an effect resembling original oils.
