FIRST EDITION, LATE ISSUE, SIGNED & INSCRIBED BY MONTGOMERY TO HER NEW PUBLISHER. Montgomery had decided to give Canadian publishing rights of her books to the firm McClelland, Goodchild and Stewart. Her American-based publisher George Page, who had held world rights, was furious. Due to Page's handling of this affair as well as to royalty disputes, Montgomery ended up also switching U.S. publishers. The inscription herein, to George Stewart, was presented during the contract signings for the Canadian edition of her book The Watchman and Other Poems. In full: "To Mr. Stewart with the author's good wishes and the hope that he may never lack a 'kindred spirit,' / Very Cordially yours, L.M. Montgomery Macdonald / August 15, 1916."
