TWO GUEST BOOKS SIGNED BY ERNEST HEMINGWAY, from his uncle George Hemingway's tree farm on Lake Charlevoix, Michigan, a favorite family gathering spot. The first signature, dated January 5th, 1903 when Hemingway was only a year and a half old, reads "Ernest Miller Hemingway x (his mark)." Three "Ernest Hemingway" signatures are dated January 2, 1911, when Hemingway was 11 years old; April 6, 1913, (age 13); and August 25-26, 1914 (age 15). The fifth signature dates from March 1919, two months after Hemingway's return to the United States after being wounded on the Italian front; Hemingway signs "Tenente [Lieutenant] Ernesto M. Hemingway" and gives his Red Cross ambulance unit in Italian below. The guest books also contain signatures of numerous other members of the Hemingway family, including Ernest's siblings and parents.
