Thaddeus Lowe, American aeronautics pioneer and inventor, writes to industrialist James T. Ames in consideration of his "continued aid and influence in introducing my invention for the manufacture of ice" to offer him a percentage of the profits of the sale of the machinery. Lowe's ice-making machine made the inventor a millionaire.
