4to (268 x 191 mm). Lithographic frontispiece portrait of the editor and 36 hand-colored lithographed plates coated in gum arabic. Original gilt-stamped violet cloth. A few plates incompletely coated, faint residue to a few plates, spine sunned, stray stains, head and tail of spine and corners lightly rubbed.
Hoffy published published the Orchardist's Companion from 1841-3, the first American journal devoted to pomology. The North American Pomologist was his second attempt, but ended after only a single issue. This work compiles all ten plates from the original journal and adds 26 further illustrations.
