Title and half-title in each volume, dedication in volume 1, and 389 double-page maps lithographed by Henri Ode, hand-colored in outline or in part, including 7 index maps and a chart of comparative altitudes of mountains. Period quarter morocco, gilt spine titles, marbled endpapers. Leaves reinforced with cloth tape at tipped edges, title and half-titles foxed, repair to verso of 3 maps, mostly mild foxing to 6 North American maps, some offsetting and spotting to index map of North and Central America, light dampstaining to 2 maps, browning to 5 or 6 others, but maps clean overall.

FIRST AND ONLY EDITION OF THE FIRST LITHOGRAPHED ATLAS. It is also the first world atlas completed on a large, uniform scaleapproximately 26 miles to one inch. The atlas was designed such that, joined together, the maps form a globe approximately 25 feet in diameter. Comprising Vol 1, Europe: 30 maps, including index map, 1bis and 1ter; Vol 2, Asia: 111 maps including index map, plus 103bis, a double-page plate of engraved notes; Vol 3, Africa: 61 maps, including index map, 1bis, 5[bis], and 18bis; Vol 4, North America: 79 maps, including 2 index maps and 57bis, Vol 5, South America: 47 maps, including index map, 4bis, 2 maps numbered 16 and 2 maps numbered 18; Vol 6, Oceania: 61 maps, including index map.
