4to (308 x 238 mm). xxvi, 332, 58 pp. Half title. Folding engraved map, 14 engraved plates. Modern half leather. Soiled and spotted, map well-worn and separating at folds, one plate crudely colored, sold not subject to return.
Provenance: modern ownership inscription and some marginalia in Russian.

FIRST EDITION. The first account of the Billings expedition, sent out by the Russians to the north Pacific, on which Sauer travelled as secretary. The appendix includes vocabularies of the Yukagir, Yakut, and Tungus languages.
