Contemporary speckled calf, spines gilt. One map slightly shaved, 4 others with small tears, or with creasing and marginal soiling, bindings with extremities worn, joints splitting.
Provenance: Robert D'Arcy, Earl of Holdernesse [1718-1778] (armorial bookplates).
Second edition. The first edition was published in the same year. The author's career is described in detail in the ODNB, and includes the delightful aside that Hanway "is said to have been the first man who made a practice of using an umbrella while walking in the streets of London." Kress 5357.
