In Lloyd Goodrich's 1982 volumes, Thomas Eakins, he states: "Susan Eakins' niece, Rebecca Macdowell, whose portrait Eakins painted in 1908, told Gordon Hendricks that she often visited the Eakinses when she was young and that her uncle-by-marriage asked her to pose nude...'he always wanted us to pose nude,' she recalled." (vol. II, p. 94)
