A gold lacquer bunko and suzuribako set with inlaid accents
Meiji/Taisho Period
Each lid decorated with stylized sprays of flowering chrysanthemum, prunus and iris rendered in the Rimpa school manner and executed in gold hiramaki-e and takamaki-e with mother-of-pearl and pewter inlay on a dense nashiji ground, reversed by a takamakie bamboo spray on an usu-nashiji ground to the underside; the document box fitted with a shallow removable interior tray; the writing box centered by an inkstone below an oval silver-plated copper suiteki etched with blossoms, each secured by a removable interior panel (sunstruck, some edge cracks).
