An Imperial Edict fragment, Xianfeng period (1851-1861)
Ink and color on silk brocade, mounted as a hand scroll; with text reading from right to left in Chinese characters, opening with the woven characters Fengtian Gaomin (By command of Heaven) flanked by two dragons, followed by text in black or colored ink ending with the date Xianfeng shi nian zheng yue chu yi ri (first day of the first month of the tenth year of Xianfeng, or 1851), with one large seal impression containing Chinese characters (loss, stains, fraying, fading, tears, repairs).
