A silver-mounted continental flintlock pistol
probably French, second quarter 18th century
The 8 1/2 inch .69 caliber brass barrel with slightly swamped muzzle. Brass lockplate with worn maker's signature. Silver furniture, bearing worn hallmarks, including ramrod thimbles, triggerguard with vasi-form finial, shaped sideplate, spurred buttcap and asymetrical wrist escutcheon. Full walnut stock carved with simple relief panels and with scrollwork behind the barrel tang and in front of the triggerguard. Horn-tipped ramrod.
Condition: Fair to good. Brass with scattered minor marks. Silver with unpolished patina. Stock cracked through at top of wrist and showing some chipping and filled areas around this area; the front 3 1/2 inches of fore-end restored.
