A Japanese matchlock pistol/carbine
19th century
The 11 7/8ths inch blackened octagonal barrel in .50 smoothbore. Brass lock with impressed maker's mark. Engraved brass fittings in the form of blossoms, a rabbit, a bird, etc. Full stock with paddle butt.
Condition: Very good to fine. Possibly shortened during period of use. Retaining 90% plus blackened finish. Some wear to engraving. Wood with minor marks.
